Week Beginning 10/06/2019

Time for a full update as there hasn’t been one on here for a while.

Coming into summer, things are starting to get quieter as far as samples being run – this does mean that we will have a lot of maintenance to do and will be having to work things around holidays etc! Starting with the air conditioning in Hector’s room – this is probably going to start being upgraded this week which will mean Hector will be unavailable! Please let me know ASAP if you’re going to need anything run urgently – the work is estimated to take 2 to 4 days.

At some point over summer, we need to upgrade all the high field computers to Windows 10, not sure at the moment how this will affect the service but likely we will do one computer at a time meaning they will all be unavailable at various points – will try to give a schedule when i know it.

We’re aware the submission portal went down on Saturday – this is hosted by computer science so it’s likely they were doing some work that we weren’t made aware of. Unfortunately nothing can be done about this at the weekends as the NMR service is unmanned. All i can suggest is to check you can access the portal before trekking down with samples – if James is here, he’s working on his thesis!

I will do my annual clear out of abandoned NMR samples soon so please take any you want – a good time to get some second hand tubes or caps. I’m still waiting on an order of caps so if you’ve asked me about them i should be in touch soon – popular colours have run out!

Lastly, Tomas and I will both be away next Thursday for a conference. This means nitrogen fills will be on Wednesday and there will be nobody running the service on Thursday.

Any queries, let me know!
